Social distancing day 122, swampwalk edition. The Indian Pipe shown is continuing to grow, but I suspect it won’t sustain too much longer unless we get more rain. Creatures seen – one human walking a big yellow hound dog. A few cars heading out of town – to work, maybe? Three squirrels, two goldfinches, many gnats, two spiderwebs with resident arachnids, some non-cardinal red birds, a blue jay, a gang of starlings, one turkey vulture. The little girl up the road wrote “stay safe 😀” in rainbow chalk on the road that is my route to the swamp. That street has a good shadow cover from neighborhood trees that is uncovered by midmorning. Another good reason for walkies before 8am. No water birds, turtles, foxes, frogs, eagles or ravens today. Surprising amount of energy at the start of the morning today, maybe due in part to some caffeine from a recent delivery and morning shotgunning of diet Pepsi. Strong urge to blow some bubbles in the woods. #swampwalk #Monotropauniflora #indianpipe #ghostplant #corpseplant #streamofthought

- May 26, 2020 Swamp walk today, saw a a ton of squirrels, including an albino. I think we have more than one, because this guy has a long tail and the other we saw last week had a shortened one. Also seen, were a male and female cardinal,a bluejay, an osprey, a clutch of turkey vultures, a few robins, and neighborhood cats tuxedo Panda and tabby Sid. Tabby Peach was lost yesterday, but was found at Panda’s house a few hours later, thankfully. Our poor neighbor was understandably worried about her, given local fox activity lately. I am glad that our boy Pyewacket is strictly indoor, and prefers that for the most part. I didn’t see the foxes or eagles today. The swamp is getting much more lush and green, harder to look as deep into the woods than last week. We are approaching peak “green glow” and I am ok with that. Still cool outside, upper 60s. I will miss the cool days when they go. Walk was taken nice and early, so there were no other pedestrians in sight but a couple of cars passed a fair distance away. #whitesquirrel #albinosquirrel #walkies View on Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CAp9xu4A86S/

- June 26, 2020 Today’s swamp walk l saw more osprey and turkey vultures. Frogs and toads must be on to me, I haven’t seen any in a bit now. A new turtle literally in my yard on the way to heading indoors…. not the same critter as the more yellow box turtle from yesterday though. I hope this little dude decides to hang out here… I am happy to toss our veg scraps in the yard for squirrels and bunnies… a little motorcycle helmet with legs would surely be welcome too. #swampwalk #turtle #damnitishot View on Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CB50KYHgN7v/
